Keller @ Large: Stephen Hawking’s Warning For Us About Our Tech Obsession

Hawking's 'There's No God' Remark in Posthumous Book Sends Twitter Into Frenzy

As a scientist with a near-religious devotion to understanding the cosmos, Hawking sought to "know the mind of God" by learning everything he could about the self-sufficient universe around us.

In the book Hawking does not rule out the possibility of doing a Back to The Future.

Published by John Murray (a Hachette company), Brief Answers to the Big Questions is a selection of the late cosmologist's most profound, accessible, and timely reflections from his personal archive.

The book, which was completed by his family after his death, presents answers to the questions that Hawking said he received most during his time on Earth.

He noted that time travel is possible and that artificial intelligence would likely outsmart humans, another topic which he has previously spoken about. "I think", he says, "that the universe was created spontaneously from scratch, according to the laws of science". To me this means there is no chance of a creator, because there was no time for a creator to exist. "No one directs the universe", he writes in "Brief Answers to the Big Questions".

The book, released today, also touches on what is inside a black hole, is there is intelligent life in the Universe and how did it all begin. "We need to be wary of answering back until we have developed a bit further".

"When Brakcet and trump now have a new influence in connection with immigration and the development of education, we are witnessing a global revolt against the experts, and that includes scientists", he says.

Hawking also suggests that "within the next hundred years we will be able to travel to anywhere in the Solar System".

And he raised a very good question: "How good is the track record of the human race in using advances in technology for the good of ordinary people?"

According to his daughter, Hawking believed that "We seem to have lost the ability to look outward, and we are increasingly looking inward to ourselves", a harsh indictment from a man who spent decades in a wheelchair unable to speak, and a warning worth heeding.

His position is certainly not surprising, as long as he lived, Hawking did not miss the opportunity to declare categorically that he was an atheist and that he saw the creation of the world from the point of view of the scientist alone, often causing the disciples to be disturbed in a particular religion.

If you'd like a copy of Hawking's final book, it's now available on Amazon.

Stephen Hawking, the eminent theoretical physicist, died earlier this year on Einstein's birthday (March 14) at 76, not without leaving a farewell message to humanity.
