Man Stabbed At Haunted House After Knife Mistaken For Prop: Police

A group of friends went out to a Halloween haunted house in Tennessee for a scare, but the night soon turned into a real-life horror scene Friday night after a stranger handed one of the friends a knife-which she thought was a prop-and allegedly encouraged her to stab her friend.

Tawnya Greenfield, 29, told police she and friends were waiting to enter the Nashville Nightmare haunted house with friends on October 5 when a person she believed to be one of the characters and an employee at the venue asked if her friend James Yochim was bothering her.

Witnesses told police that they all thought the knife was a prop.

A Nashville nightmare employee poses with a knife on the company's Instagram page. The man who allegedly supplied the knife reportedly said he didn't think it was that sharp.

He was lucky, in a way, that the path of the wound missed any major arteries, bones or tendons in his arm, although his doctor is still carefully monitoring the healing process.

Yochim told the Tennessean that Greenfield had wounded him after they'd been menaced by characters wielding imitation chainsaws, and that he had expected it to be a plastic blade too.

Yochim says he and his friends attending Nashville Nightmare in Madison had been chased by people with chain saws and other weapons. "So she stabs at me with it, and everything got really black".

The mystery man, who was wearing crystal skull make-up and a straw hat and "talking in character", then goaded Tawnya stab James as a joke by saying "well stab here", which she did because she thought it was a dummy weapon. "I didn't know. I'm so sorry"'.

Yochim says when he came-to, Greenfield was "bawling" next to him.

"No one wants to stab their friend", he said.

'I've been stabbed and I still can't even imagine what it's like to accidentally hurt your friend like that'.

"We are still confirming the facts, but I can tell you that on Friday night, a male patron was injured by a fellow patron outside the Nashville Nightmare house".

Believing the knife she was given was a prop, she stabbed her friend, the report said. "We are going over all of our safety protocols with all of our staff again, as the safety and security of all of our patrons is always our main concern". In a statement to News Channel 5, the business said that it is continuing to investigate what happened and that an employee suspected of being involved in the stabbing has been placed on leave.
