Microsoft will let users bin more of Windows 10's pre-loaded junk

Removing junk from Windows 10 now involves using PowerShell to do so, or a third party-app like Geek Uninstaller.

Microsoft is now rolling out the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) Build 17763.104 (KB4464455) to Windows Insiders in the Slow and Release Preview rings. However, Microsoft is also known for shoving features and apps people don't want into major updates and enabling old features you don't use (hi, Cortana).

The buggy HP driver issue was triggered after users installed the first cumulative update for version 1809, which itself was created to fix an issue causing it to delete user profiles in certain circumstances.

Thankfully, Windows 10 has always let you uninstall the apps that Microsoft frustratingly auto-installs onto users' PCs, including the likes of Bubble Witch 3 Saga, Candy Crush Soda Saga, and FarmVille 2: Country Escape. The new build fixes issues with the Task Manager, which was inexplicably originally shipped in a slightly broken form, along with dealing with IME problems in Edge and unresponsive apps following resuming from Connected Standby.

We fixed an issue from the previous flight resulting in Task Manager's icon in the notification area of the taskbar not staying visible while Task Manager was open.

When adding a new language in Settings, we now offer separate options for installing the language pack and setting the language as the Windows display language. We also show separate options for installing the Speech recognition and Text-to-speech features, when these features are available for the language.

We fixed an issue resulting in File Explorer not launching if invoked from a pinned Start tile when in Tablet Mode.

Some users may have an issue launching Inbox Apps after updating.

Microsoft's efforts to recover from the Windows 10 October 2018 Update debacle continued last night as a fresh build of the troubled operating system was emitted to Windows Insiders.
