Perry Funeral Home: Unburied fetuses, infants removed from second Detroit funeral home

Detroit Police officers use crime scene tape to cordon off the area while they execute a search warrant at the Perry Funeral Home in Detroit on Friday Oct. 19 2018. Police removed the remains of 63 fetuses from the funeral home and regulators shuttered

Conditions of the fetuses are not known as well as where they were stored.

Jason Moon of the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs said the remains were found in three unrefrigerated boxes.

Friday's raid comes after another Detroit funeral home was shuttered after the remains of 11 infants were discovered in the ceiling, authorities said.

Detroit police have an ongoing criminal investigation into the Cantrell Funeral Home.

The remains of more than 60 infants and fetuses were found stashed in a Detroit funeral home, police said on Friday, calling the discovery "deeply disturbing".

Police discovered the remains at the Perry Funeral Home on Friday. Some of the dates of death go back to 2015.

MI law says funeral directors generally must supervise a body's final disposition within 60 days of receiving it.

Respondents failed to secure permits for removal or burial of dead human bodies before interment or disposal.

The funeral home was also accused of several licensing and financial violations, the agency said.

Respondents obtained possession or embalmed the dead human bodies of the fetuses and infants without first being expressly directed or authorized to do so by a relative of the deceased persons or a person entitled to custody.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs said in a statement it revoked the funeral home's license and shut down the facility after inspectors "found heinous conditions and negligent conduct at the home".

DaVisha Dellihue, who had her stillborn cremated at Perry Funeral Home in 2017, told ABC News that when she received her baby's ashes she felt like something was wrong. It was an anonymous tip that helped uncover these remains.

Failure of a funeral home to properly dispose of a dead body after more than 180 days is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and $50,000 in fines.

There was one previously scheduled service at Perry Funeral Home and arrangements are being made for it to occur at another location.
