Pogba can't help Man United win on his own - Deschamps

From Noble to Mourinho Winners and losers as West Ham add to Man Utd’s woes

'The club and the fans deserve a win at home, ' said Arnautovic.

Jose Mourinho didn't have much to cheer about after Manchester United's trip to West Ham this weekend.

Jose Mourinho's men were visiting the London Stadium after last weekend's draw with Wolverhampton and the midweek League Cup exit against Derby, not to mention the civil unrest between the United manager and Paul Pogba, and this was yet another low.

The Hammers suddenly look a world away from the side who lost their first four matches of the season, having taken seven points off Everton, Chelsea and United as well as putting eight goals past Macclesfield in the cup.

An unlucky own goal increased their lead but even a superb strike from Marcus Rashford made little difference, with Marko Arnautovic scoring the victor.

In the second half there was a slight change in emphasis but to nothing like the kind of level needed to work their way back into the fixture.

United legend Rio Ferdinand's comments to BT Sport before kick-off were telling.

"You've got to make sure that there's a harmony within the squad".

Zidane is genuinely interested in the United job and has even discussed the matter with friends yet United have denied any suggestions that they've made contact.

Despite the woeful on-field performances and the undesirable issues off it, Mourinho has the backing of club's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, according to The Telegraph.

But what he got only intensified the sense that something is broken at Old Trafford and he does not have the tact to find the solution.

United's biggest problem remains their inability to break down well-organised defences.

Mourinho stripped Pogba - who was substituted in Saturday's shock defeat to West Ham - of his vice-captaincy responsibilities, while the pair were involved in a training-ground confrontation on Wednesday.

And Mourinho's glowing praise of youngster McTominay gave the distinct impression that he was sending a message to certain other players.

United tried to haul themselves back in the game after Felipe Anderson's early goal for West Ham but their football was beige.

The last one, Mourinho said, was a murderous moment, coming a minute after Marcus Rashford had pulled United to 2-1.
