Ravens pile up team-record 11 sacks, shut out Titans

Titans Mailbag What will the offense do against Baltimore? Is there a trade option at receiver

Smith said the Ravens didn't know how many sacks they had until tying the team record of nine and were told they could break the record set November 24, 2011, against San Francisco.

"They said if we get one more, we're going to break a record", Smith said, "So we went and got two more".

The Baltimore defense finished with more sacks than completions allowed.

The Ravens (4-2) smothered Tennessee, allowing just 106 yards of offense while they turned Marcus Mariota's day into the worst of his National Football League career.

"When you're running in coverage and you hear screams of the sack, you're happy", cornerback Jimmy Smith said.

The Titans (3-3) had not been shut out at home since the franchise relocated to Tennessee. The last time the franchise was held without a point at home was 1976, when the Houston Oilers were shut out by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Astrodome.

Long after many of his teammates had already boarded the team bus at Nissan Stadium on Sunday evening, Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs returned to his locker, where a group of reporters waited.

The performance was so poor on the part of QB Marcus Mariota, RBs Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis, and offensive line that head coach Mike Vrabel could hardly contain his frustration on Monday. He still completed 66 percent of his passes, and probably could've done more if he didn't have a Raven in his face every single time he was throwing the ball.

Asked whether he has ever been in a game like that, Mariota said, "No, that was a first". " before adding "not very good".

The Ravens even changed their Twitter handle to have an "S" for each sack.

Dean Pees and the Titans simply couldn't stop his old team as the Ravens outgained Tennessee 361-106 and punted only once against a defense led by their former defensive coordinator.

- Linebacker Matthew Judon tied the franchise mark on the Titans' first play in the fourth quarter.

No matter how you look at it, it's going down in the history books.
