Razer Blade 15 gaming laptop gets new Base, Limited models

New, cheaper Razer Blade gaming laptop packs dual storage and Ethernet

In addition to its second generation gaming smartphone, Razer is also announcing the expansion of its Blade 15 line.

Of course, Razer had to prune a few features in order to bring the price tag down.

A new version, keeping the name but making some hardware and design tweaks, is now available, and at a lower starting price of $1,599. The rest, however, remain the same, including the 8th gen Intel Core i7-8750H processor and NVIDIA GTX 1060 Max-Q GPU.

Gaming brand Razer on Thursday announced the launch of a new base model in its Razer Blade 15 gaming notebook series, originally launched in June 2018.

So, what's different? Instead of a single 256GB SSD, the new base model pairs a smaller 128GB SSD with a 1TB HDD.

The new parts include an Ethernet port for hardwired internet connections as well as a new dual storage drive option, which allows you to configure the Razer Blade with both an M.2 solid state drive (SSD) and a 2.5-inch hard drive (HDD).

Although the new dual-storage model is a little thicker, it actually weighs a little less than the single-storage version, but you'll still get up to six hours of battery life. Even if you opt for the pricier of the two, it's still cheaper than the previous version, with the benefit of bulk storage. The Razer Blade 15 Mercury White model, on the other hand, is for gamers who want to mask their gaming prowess behind an unassuming white matte finish.

The Razer Blade 15 Dual Storage edition is available October 10, and starts at $1,599 for a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. However, Razer is only offering this color scheme with 144Hz displays and 512GB SSDs, with the GTX 1060 model costing $2,199 (about £1,665, AU$3,095) and the GTX 1070 version going for $2,599 (about £1,968, AU$3,658).

The Mercury White Razer Blade will be available in the U.S. and Canada through Razer's website directly later this year. "We listened to feedback from our fans and we have expanded on that experience with a new color option, Ethernet capability, more storage configurations, and a more affordable price", Razer co-founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan said. Europe and Asia-Pacific markets will get availability from November.
