The new Palm phone is exclusive to Verizon and costs $350

Palm is back (sort of), and it built a tiny smartphone sidekick

It's shortcomings are apparently its virtue.

Priced at Dollars 349 (about RM 1450), the new Palm which is manufactured by TCL will be released in the United States this coming November. Unlike in a conventional Flight Mode, you can choose what gets through, and when. Well, sort of, after a new phone called Palm was announced thanks to a combination of the startup which owns the Palm brand and Chinese hardware makers, TCL.

So here's something we didn't expect to be saying any time soon - Palm is back, baby!

The single-SIM (Nano) Palm runs a custom version of Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, and sports a small 3.3-inch HD LCD display panel with a 445ppi pixel density and Corning Gorilla Glass protection on the front and the back.

You might be wondering why do I need this phone when I have a regular one? For now at least, the Palm is a Verizon-exclusive, and use's the carrier NumberShare service to sync your messages and notifications between your main phone and this thing.

More than any other feature, the Life Mode on the Palm phone is what makes this a "time well spent" minimalist phone. Since it is a companion device, Verizon subscribers will be able to use only after availing an add-on on their existing line. "It's a much more aggressive way to turn off notifications and deny incoming phone calls". This mode also extends the battery life of the Palm device to an entire day. There's a virtual button at the bottom that serves as the home and multi-tasking button. Headphones can connect via Bluetooth and you have to swipe down on the screen to adjust the volume. Sensors onboard the phone include accelerometer, electronic compass, gyroscope, and proximity sensor.

The 12-megapixel rear camera probably won't be producing photos that impress, but may get the job done anyways. That means no notch, but it also means it's a hell of a lot less secure than Apple's dedicated face ID. Some would argue that an LTE-enabled smartwatch could function the same way as the Palm phone but perhaps this could be a viable alternative for those who don't want something on their wrist (or who like traditional mechanical watches).
