Turkey to reveal new information on the murder of journalist

Reuters said on Monday that Saud al-Qahtani, an influential adviser to Bin Salman, participated in a Skype call to the room in the consulate where Khashoggi was held, telling the team to "bring me the head of the dog".

The conference, nicknamed "Davos in the desert", has been overshadowed by the outcry over the murder of Khashoggi inside the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul on October 2, with a string of leading worldwide investors pulling out over the case. "This is a political murder", he added.

In fact, according to the nonprofit group, Committee to Protect Journalists, Turkey has a far worse track record when it comes to journalists than Saudi Arabia.

Mr Hunt acknowledged that the United Kingdom had close security and business links with Saudi Arabia but "if the appalling stories we are reading turn out to be true" the United Kingdom "will act accordingly". He was later recalled to Riyadh and was relieved of his duties.

CCTV footage obtained from Turkish news agency DHA shows Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi (R) arriving at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul on 2 October, 2018.

On Monday, leaked surveillance video showed a man strolling out of the diplomatic post hours after Khashoggi disappeared into the consulate, apparently wearing the columnist's clothes as part of a macabre deception to sow confusion over his fate. Why was the team assembled in Istanbul? "Why has the body of someone, the killing of whom has been officially admitted, not been found?" Where is the body of a person who was admittedly murdered?

The sources say President Erdogan has a copy of the Skype audio but is refusing to hand it over to the US.

It contradicts the explanation being made by Saudi officials that the body was rolled up in a carpet and handed to a local collaborator who was tasked with disposing of the evidence.

Saudi Arabia said on Saturday that Khashoggi, 59, was killed in a fight in the consulate.

"My demand is that 18 people be tried in Istanbul", he said, adding that "all those who played a role in the murder" had to face punishment.

"Blaming some intelligence members for this matter will neither satisfy us nor the global community", stated the Turkish president. They tortured him by cutting off his fingers and then dismembered and decapitated him, they said. "There are very important questions about the entire relationship with Saudi Arabia that need to be asked", she said, while declining to comment on arms contracts.

Mr Erdogan also spoke to family members by phone on Tuesday, offering condolences and saying he would do all he could to solve the murder.

Khashoggi, a critic of MBS, vanished after he entered Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul on October 2. London, Ontario-based General Dynamics Land Systems, a unit of US -based General Dynamics Corp., manufactures armored vehicles under a contract with Saudi Arabia signed by the Canadian government in 2014. Activists say people were already cowed by a vicious crackdown on dissent and are afraid now to say anything against the regime, and the murder has terrified the Saudi Diaspora.
