Usain Bolt scores first goals for Central Coast Mariners

Usain Bolt has marked his first start for A-League side Central Coast Mariners with two goals against Macarthur South West in a preseason friendly.

As early as the second minute, he broke clear but wasn't able to get a shot on goal, as he lost the ball before getting to the penalty area.

The headlines will naturally be all about the goals and he should certainly be given credit where it's due - the first one was a tidy finish that any footballer would be proud of.

In terms of his defensive stats Bolt would predictably struggle to match up with his fellow professionals, but we all know gamers would throw him either on the wing or up top to burn defenders with his blistering pace. For him to learn those skills at 32 years of age is a huge challenge, though he is clearly confident.

"My first proper start and to score two goals is a good feeling". "Because this is what I've worked for".

"I'm happy to show people that I'm improving my game and I want to be a Mariner and join the team".

"I think my running off the ball is where I've improved most."

"He is a sportsman and he has a lot of abilities that are important to be successful in football, too". "He's playing in a different position than he was in the first game".

"He fits in very well and he has made enormous improvements". He just looks a little bit sharper, not a great deal to be honest.

Bolt signed autographs on the touchline after he was taken off as the game fizzled out.

Bolt expressed his concerns that Friday's match would determine his future with the club as he strives towards winning a professional contract and a place with the Mariners for the season, which beginnings on October 19.

The fastest man in the world has finally arrived in the lovely game.
