Alabama beats Mississippi State to remain unbeaten

With Brown in the lineup, the Tide ground game compiled 89 rushing yards on its first 16 carries over back-to-back scoring drives to open the game.

Tagovailoa left the game with 2:42 remaining in the third quarter after getting sacked by Cameron Dantzler on third-and-nine.

Coach Nick Saban didn't seem too concerned as he told reporters after the game, "I think he's OK". "I think he got hit in the front of the knee, not the back which is where his initial problem was".

"Tua got beat up a little bit", Nick Saban said after the game.

On offense, sophomore quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw for 164 yards and a touchdown, junior running back Josh Jacobs carried 20 times for 97 yards and a touchdown and had the Tide's lone touchdown catch.

Danzler took a direct shot to Tagovailoa's injured right knee, which has been a source of discomfort for Alabama's Heisman Trophy front-runner over the last month.

Another sack, this one by sophomore linebacker Dylan Moses, forced the Bulldogs into 3rd-and-18.

Harris, who entered the game just 2 yards shy of Musso, finished the contest with 53 rushing yards on 14 carries for 2,789 in his career. "We stopped the run pretty well, so I was very pleased with that". Plus, they held Mississippi State's offense to only 169 yards and six first downs.

Alabama scored touchdowns on its first two drives, consuming more than 10 minutes combined with 156 yards.

But just because Alabama has been rolling, doesn't mean the Tide will cover this number against the Bulldogs. The last time Alabama lost to Mississippi State was on November 10, 2007.

The Tide's third TD was set up by a fumbled punt return at Mississippi State's 27 in the second quarter.

Mississippi State: Penalties helped cost opportunities to make this game close as Bulldogs couldn't cash in on several promising drives.

After running for an average of 92.3 yards a game, Fitzgerald finished with negative 23 yards.

Alabama found themselves up 9-0 in the early parts of the second quarter with Leigh Tiffing nailing three field goals including one from 51 yards out. Defense had 10 tackles for loss and Alabama didn't commit a penalty. The Tide rushing attack did not go from awesome to bad just because of the absence of Deonte Brown.

The victory is the 24th consecutive home win for Alabama, tying the school record set from 1971-74.

Mississippi State hosts Arkansas in another SEC West matchup.

Sure, Alabama still has the Iron Bowl with the arch rival Auburn Tigers let on the slate, plus a cupcake game versus the The Citadel before that.
