Baby delivered after pregnant mother shot dead with crossbow in her home

A pregnant woman reportedly shot with a crossbow in front of her five other children managed to have her premature baby boy safely delivered via an emergency procedure before she died Monday.

Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo, 50, was charged this morning with the 35-year-old's murder.

The 35-year-old's husband, Imtiaz Muhammad, said his wife had been shot in front of her five children, aged between one and 17. My wife was doing the washing up, I was shouting, 'Run! Run!

File image of Devi Unmathallegadoo, who was locally known as Sana Muhammad. He told the Evening Standard: "The arrow went up into her heart but did not touch the unborn baby". Muhammad is said to have changed her name from Devi Unmathallegadoo after marrying her partner Imtiaz Muhammad. She was rushed to hospital where doctors performed an emergency Caesarean section but she died just over three hours later.

The man described Sana Muhammad as "a wonderful mother and wife". "They operated with the arrow still in because it would have been too unsafe to take out", he said.


A Met Police spokeswoman told the Recorder: "We can confirm that the baby was delivered and remains in hospital in a stable condition. I am heartbroken. We were inseparable", said Imtiaz Muhammad.

DCI Gary Holmes, of Scotland Yard's homicide and major crime command, said: "This is a tragic incident and our sympathies are with the loved ones and friends of the victim".

It's believed the pair were in a relationship.

Meanwhile, Unmathallegadoo appeared at the Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody, according to London's Metropolitan Police Service.
