Borussia Dortmund 3 Bayern Munich 2: Super-sub Alcacer settles thrilling Klassiker

Axel Witsel has scored three goals in 16 competitive outings for Borussia Dortmund so far in 2018/19

Lewandowski headed Bayern back into the lead before two goals in six second-half minutes by Reus and Paco Alcacer won it for Dortmund.

Seven points ahead of third-placed Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga, could they be on their way to a first league title triumph since the heady days of Jurgen Klopp?

Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund celebrates with teammate Axel Witsel after scoring his team's first goal during the Bundesliga match between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Muenchen at Signal Iduna Park on November 10, 2018 in Dortmund, Germany.

Borussia Dortmund extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings with a 3-2 victory over Bayern Munich on Saturday evening.

Lewandowski, who left Dortmund in 2014, went down looking for a penalty under what looked minimal contact from Julian Weigl but the referee waved play on. The domination finally paid off in the 26th minute as Lewandowski scored against his former club, nodding home from a Serge Gnabry cross.

But the scores were level for only three minutes.

The lead, though, did not last long and Bayern were back in front on 52 minutes.

Lewandowski then thought he had a hat trick, but the flag was up for offside after he found the roof of the net with a powerful strike.

Reus got parity again for the hosts in the 69th minute with an incredible half-volley in the centre of the box following a brilliant cross by Lukasz Piszczek, 2-2. The Belgian picked out Alcácer, who outpaced the Bayern defence to slot past Neuer.
