Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie set to begin custody trial

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

The way it stands now, fans can only hope that neither Angelina Jolie nor Brad Pitt turns their current legal proceedings into a traumatic event for them and their family.

"Both parties continue to work together toward a settlement."

Evaluations for the children have already begun, and the judge will rely heavily on their findings in his ruling over custody.

The couple split in September 2016 when the Maleficent actress accused Brad of being abusive towards Maddox on a private plane, and insiders believe the 43-year-old star plans to use the incident as grounds for her receiving full custody.

According to the documents, which were filed yesterday, pitt and Jolie want to extend the term of office of the judge involved in their case until June 30, 2019 - obviously, before the end of this year they did not reach an agreement.

In addition to the custody dispute, the private judge also needs to handle a property settlement agreement as the former couple do not have a prenuptial agreement.

Sources close to the situation told The Blast this week that Pitt feels Jolie, who is fighting for sole custody, is "purely trying to drag him through the mud in the upcoming custody trial" and that Pitt is "worried about the longterm effects it will have on their six children".

The pair have six children together, ranging from ages 10 to 17.

The trial could take up to 3 weeks and the judge will have the duty of going thru all the info and making a decision. The former couple already hit a speed bump sometime in June when Jolie was informed that she could lose primary custody over their children if Brad Pitt was not given enough significant parenting time.
