The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) began strike action in St. Catharines, Welland, and Fort Erie this week.

Monday's strike means there will be no mail delivery in Rockwood, Elora, Fergus, Arthur, Belwood or Guelph. The union is also conducting strikes in London, Scarborough and Sault Ste.

He said there was limited service at smaller local offices, including those in Burford, St. George, Princeton and Ohsweken.

In Calgary, the job action affected 2,100 members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) Local 710 and was the second time they've walked out since the rotating strike began late last month.

Canada Post has said negotiations, through a special mediator appointed by the federal government, continue with CUPW. He said it's unclear if this will last for more than one day. "Until Canada Post negotiators address it, we can solve it for ourselves in the meantime", said Palecek.

Cheeke said over the past two years, workers have seen a 50 per cent increase in parcel delivery thanks to the rise of online shopping. Those plants can process a million parcels and packets a day.

Cuda said the union wants a safer workplace for members that includes shorter delivery routes and "better staffing so we don't have to work forced overtime".

"For the rural mail carriers, it's time paid for time worked", says Slingsby.

"Until we get confirmation from the national executive, we don't know when it will end", said Oduor, who noted the last action on October 24-25 ended after one day.

The statement says Canada Post has also "committed to work together to address employees' workload concerns caused by parcel growth, additional financial services and going beyond pay equity for rural and suburban employees by extending job security and moving to one uniform for all delivery employees".

Correction: An earlier version of this story included Napanee Ont.in the list of eastern Ontario municipalities with postal workers on strike on November 7.
