Chelsea among five Premier League clubs facing transfer ban

The west Londoners would be unable to sign players for four windows

Federation Internationale de Football Association have insisted no decision has been reached on a possible Chelsea transfer ban, after reports emerged the Blues could be forbidden from buying players for two years.

Chelsea are one of the clubs and a report by French investigative website Mediapart has claimed that Fifa's Integrity and Compliance unit have internally proposed a two-year transfer ban on the London club stretching across four windows.

Five Premier League clubs are facing the threat of being hit with a transfer ban as part of Fifa's investigation into the signing of foreign players under the age of 18.

According to Mediapart, it has been discovered that the Premier League side have illegally signed as many as 14 youth prospects, and Federation Internationale de Football Association is now calling for the West London outfit to be punished.

The identities of the other four clubs under investigation have not been revealed, but Federation Internationale de Football Association has previously confirmed Manchester City's activities involving the signing of youth players were under review, even though the club denied any knowledge of the situation. Thus, the clubs are to be presumed innocent unless decided otherwise.

Fifa rules prohibit the worldwide transfer of players under the age of 18 unless their parents have emigrated for reasons not connected to football or both the player and club are based within 50km of a national border.

The only exceptions relate to transfers within the EU or European Economic Area.

European giants like Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have also been handed transfer bans in recent seasons.

It was also claimed that the agreement was an option for four and a half years when the limit for players under the age of 18 is three years.

FIFA confirmed they were investigating Chelsea back in September 2017, though a club spokesman insisted the club "complies with all FIFA Statutes and Regulations when recruiting players". They appealed without success to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

An additional three-window ban was reportedly added due to the club's signings of several other players who were under 18. Real, in turn, accused CAS of "lacking the courage to revoke the ruling entirely".
