Donald Trump attacks CNN’s Acosta, calls him ‘rude’, ‘terrible’; suspends WH pass

John Legend slams Trump during President's wild press conference

President Donald Trump has gone back on a vow he once made not to ban reporters from White House press briefings.

After being questioned about the migrant caravan and Russian Federation investigation during a post-midterms press conference, the president lashes out at the "rude, terrible" CNN chief White House correspondent.

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders later issued a statement that said the reporter's "hard pass" was suspended as a result of his attempt to keep control of a microphone during Wednesday's news conference with the president.

It all kicked off with CNN's Jim Acosta who first asked Trump a question on migration and pointed out Trump's campaign had an ad of migrants climbing a wall.

Mr Acosta, chief White House correspondent for CNN, was called a "rude, awful person" by Mr Trump at a press conference on Wednesday. (Previously, Trump called him "Crazy Jim Acosta" on Twitter.) This time, the president did take a question from Acosta and appeared to immediately regret it.

"This conduct is absolutely unacceptable".

CNN released a statement standing by Acosta, indicating the revocation of his pass "was done in retaliation for his challenging questions at today's press conference".

"(Sanders) provided fraudulent accusations and cited an incident that never happened.

"This unprecedented decision is a threat to our democracy and the country deserves better", the company continued. CNN's Ali Velshi tweeted his support, writing, "I worked with Jim @Acosta during my years @CNN". We will not tolerate the inappropriate behavior clearly documented in this video.

It was the latest in a long history of fiery run-ins between the mercurial Republican leader and Acosta.

One of the few productive and peaceful moments of the event came when a Jewish reporter asked the president about God's place in his administration. "But they have to come in legally". Acosta refused. Trump backed away from his podium and briefly paced the stage. "That is not an invasion". I didn't call you.'10. "I think I'm just covering a story, honestly", Acosta said in a 2017 interview with The Washington Post about his reporting style. That is enough, put down the mic.

A staff member struggled with him for his microphone during the exchange.

'You are a very rude person, ' Trump told him.

"I'll tell you what".

'CNN should be ashamed of themselves having you working for them.

At the press conference, President Trump called Mr Acosta a "rude, bad person" after the reporter challenged his recent assertions about a migrant caravan heading to the United States from Central America.
