Donald Trump's White House Revokes Jim Acosta's CNN Press Credentials

U.S. President Donald Trump gets into a heated exchange with CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta as NBC correspondent Peter Alexander looks on during a post-election press conference in the East Room of the White House in Washington DC on Nove

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, the nation's premier defender of the legal rights of journalists, joins the White House Correspondents' Association in vehemently objecting to the revocation of a CNN reporter's access credentials.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders has been accused of sharing a "doctored" video of CNN correspondent Jim Acosta's interaction with a White House intern that resulted in the reporter's press pass being revoked.

Acosta refused to give up the microphone when a White House intern tried to grab it from him, infuriating Trump.

President Donald Trump lashed out at CNN's Jim Acosta on Wednesday after the reporter challenged him for calling a caravan of immigrants an "invasion".

A staff member tried to take away his microphone during the back and forth. "We will, however, never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern", Sanders' statement read, in part, referring to an intern who attempted to remove Acosta's mic from his hand during his argument with Trump, to which the reporter respectfully resisted.

He then berated Acosta for the way he questioned White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in briefings.

President Trump insulted Mr Acosta after the reporter challenged his recent assertions about a migrant caravan heading to the U.S. from Central America.

In a stinging put down of Acosta, he said: "I tell you what CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them".

"The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is disgusting", he said.

The official Twitter account posted a statement which read: "This President's ongoing attacks on the press have gone too far".

Albright said videos like this pose an even greater risk of perpetuating misinformation than completely faked news videos, because they contain a grain of truth and will likely be given the assumption of accuracy.

"You and I have a difference of opinion", Trump said.

In video from the event, the journalist is seen attempting to ask a follow-up question but is repeatedly shut down by the USA leader, who says "that's enough" five times.

And James asked how the media can deal with a President that will lie to them. "You aren't the best", Trump told Alexander.

White House staffers decide whether journalists are eligible, though the Secret Service determines whether their applications are approved.

"While President Trump has made it clear he does not respect a free press, he has a sworn obligation to protect it".

"I had one other question if I may ask on the Russian Federation investigation", Acosta pleaded. It was done in retaliation for his challenging questions at today's press conference. Trump has repeatedly called him "fake news", turning him into a symbol of the president's general animus toward the news media.

"It was a pretty surreal experience", Acosta, who has covered the White House for five years, said of the situation.
