Dutch man, 69, brings lawsuit to lower his age 20 years

A 69-year-old pensioner who says he has the body of a 45-year-old is taking action to legally change his age to improve his job prospects and luck with women on Tinder.

Emile Ratelband told a court in Arnhem in the Netherlands that he did not feel "comfortable" with his date of birth, and compared his wish to alter it to people who identified as transgender.

However, he explained that allowing people to change their birth date would create problems from a legal point of view.

"If I put on Tinder that I am 69, I will not get a response.[As] 49, with that face of mine, then I'm rammed", he said.

Ratelband, whose website describes him as a personal development entrepreneur, told De Telegraaf he is a "young god" and said a change to his legal age would help him live life with gusto.

Ratelband's argument hinges on transgender people's ability to now change their genders on their birth certificates.

'When I'm 69, I am limited.

Ratelband also argued in court that he feels discriminated against because of his older age, according to RLE Nieuws.

The case has gone to a court in Arnhmen, Gelderland, where it is expected to give a ruling within four weeks.

Mr Ratelband believes that he is discriminated against because of his age and wants a local court in the city of Amhem, south-east of Amsterdam, to rule on the case after his local authority refused to change his age on official documents. "If I'm 49, then I can buy a new house, drive a different vehicle", he said.

Do you think this man should be allowed to change his name?

According to his doctor, his biological age is between 40 and 45, he said.

And he says his move would also be good news for the government as he would be renouncing his pension until he reaches retirement age again.

The judge conceded that the ability to change gender was a development in the law.

The Netherlands' constitution expressly prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of age.

BBC reported that Mr Ratelband is a media personality who had voiced the character Vladimir Trunkov in the Dutch-language version of the Pixar film Cars 2.
