First glimpse at new Porsche 911

New Porsche 911: fresh images of 992 model released…

The image above has emerged as Porsche casts some light on the testing programme the 992-generation of 911 has been put through.

Porsche says the test vehicles were moving between climate zones with temperature differences of up to 85 degrees Celsius, as well as "sprinting across elevation changes spanning more than four kilometres".

Porsche says that every component of these cars has to perform as well at the end of testing as they did at the start.

Project Manager the new version of the 911 suggests that the vehicle is a gorgeous sports coupe that is ideal for daily use. There were also the function and stress tests for a fully new operating concept in the cockpit, instruments and displays.

In hot regions, such as the Middle East or Death Valley in the United States of America, the air conditioning, thermal management, and combustion behaviour need to pass functional checks in temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius.

Finland where temperature drops below -35 degree Celsius was chosen as the freezing region to test for cold-start testing, heating traction, handling and braking behaviour as well as the response speed control system (electronics) which are related to the driving dynamics. The models have been tried for endurance in lengthy traffic jams crosswise over different cities and on the race tracks as well.

The demanding Nurburgring has become a traditional part of the rigorous Porsche test and development program. The engine, transmission, brakes and chassis must prove their mettle at the demanding racetrack located in the Eifel mountain region. Porsche also tested the vehicle as it would be used in every day driving in Germany. In Colorado they reached heights of 4,3 km, which was a challenge for the twin-turbo charging and fuel system.

In total, the prototype models have been driven around three million kilometres (1.86 million miles). Porsche says the test cars will have completed a total test run of 3 million kilometers when they have served their goal, and part of that is, of course, testing at the legendary Nürburgring, where many 911 customers will undoubtedly take their new pride and joy.
