Lady Gaga: We need more support for mental health

Harrison Ford

She's a true humanitarian, seeking ways to help those who are suffering. The songstress also addressed her own emotional well-being. Over time she would "black out for seconds or minutes" and saw "flashes of things I was tormented by" that she thought her brain had filed away. The 32-year-old starlet looked wonderful in a strapless gown as she attended the SAG-AFTRA event to pick up her Patron of the Artists Awards in Beverly Hills.

In addition to that modest statement, Gaga warned the audience that she had devoted more than three hours to penning her speech.

Katzenberg sounded a similar theme, telling the actors in the ballroom that "if you didn't do what you do, I could have never, ever defined what I do". We need to hare our stories so that global mental health no longer resides and festers in the darkness.

"We are losing a generation of young people who do not believe that their voices are worth hearing", she said, suggesting that SAG-AFTRA partner with Gaga's Born This Way Foundation to provide mental health teams for those suffering. We know that nature doesn't need people - people need nature!

"Today, one in four people experience mental health crisis", stated the singer. "I was not empowered to say no". She suffered emotionally at first, and then experienced "physical chronic pain, fibromyalgia, panic attacks, acute trauma responses and debilitating mental spirals that have included suicidal ideation and masochistic behavior". "A system in place to empower to stay away from toxic working environments or working with people that were of seriously questionable character".

And she urged the foundation to join her in creating such a system for current and future artists.

The acting unions Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) honored industry leaders and artists who are champions for the arts on Thursday night at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation's 3 Annual Patron of the Artists Awards.

Other celebrity guests in attendance included: Barbara Bain, Parker Bates, SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris, Robert Forster, Kat Graham, Mackenzie Hancsicsak, Russell Hornsby, Sharon Lawrence, Esai Morales, and Susan Sullivan.
