Mithali slams fifty as India thrashes Pakistan

India's M Raj was declared player of the match for her 56 runs

Pakistan registered their highest-ever Twenty20 global total during the match against arch-rivals India in the Women's World T20 encounter in Providence, Guyana.

India responded with 134-3 with one over to spare.

With four points, the three-time champions top Group B with a better run rate over India.

Meanwhile, Mithali Raj added that she was happy to perform whatever role the team required of her.

Australia now top Group B of the event as they defeated Ireland by nine wickets at Guyana's Providence Stadium today.

Pakistan have lost two matches and will take on Ireland on Wednesday.

Dayalan Hemalatha brought the Indians back into the game when she sent back both Pakistani batters in the 19th over shortly after they had reached their respective half-centuries.

Earlier, Ireland had won the toss and batted, and had two major partnerships: 27 at the top and 41 for the sixth wicket, but precious little in between.

Even before a ball being faced, 10 runs were on India's scoreboard after Pakistan was docked a five-run penalty twice during its innings on account of its batswomen running on the danger area of the pitch.

After a steady 94-run partnership between Maroof and Dar, Pakistan managed to score a total of 133/7 in their 20 overs.

Maroof who made 53 and Dar who blasted an aggressive 52 from just 35 balls came together with Pakistan in dire trouble at 30 for three.

Veda Krishnamurthy dropped Nida Dar while on 15 in the 11th over.

It meant India effectively began their innings on 10-0 and Raj calmly recorded their fifty with successive boundaries in the eighth over. "But still. India struggled against our bowling, so it's a good thing for us that we defend it very well".

But it was Raj and Smriti Mandhana's opening stand of 73 which completely swung the game in India's favour as they chased a below par total. Poonam Yadav (2 for 22) took two wickets in the final over of the innings to finish the pick of the bowlers.
