NASA’s Hubble Telescope spots cute smiling face in house

NASA Detects Formation of Galaxies That Looks Like a Smiley

When NASA peers into the sky with any of its various telescopes, there's always the chance that scientists will spot something they've never seen before.

The Hubble Space Telescope captured a friendly face in space.

The "eyes" of the smiley face are comprised of two yellow-hued blobs which hang atop a sweeping arc of light.

The Observatory's wide-field camera 3 took the photo of the galaxy cluster SDSS J0952+3434. This effect is known as gravitational lensing and requires that the three participants (the light source, the massive structure, and the observer - which is on Earth) be aligned in a straight-line configuration called a syzygy. "Its light passed close to a massive object on the way to us, with the result that it became distorted and stretched", reported NASA astronomers. The gravity of the nearby galaxies bends and magnifies the light coming from distant galaxies, making them look brighter and larger than they actually are. What you're looking at is dozens of distant galaxies with countless stars being born and dying.

The mission of the Hubble space telescope is the study of life in other galaxies, as usual, the gas turns into a giant star.

Analyzing the luminosity, size and rate of formation of young stars in such images, the NASA researchers hope to better understand how stars are formed in cold parts of the Universe.

The Hubble telescope returned to normal operations on October 26 after successfully recovering a backup gyroscope replacing a failed in October.

Recently, using the data collected by Hubble and Kepler telescope, a team of researchers at the Columbia University found the evidence of the first moon outside the solar system.
