Protesters nationwide seek to protect Russian Federation investigation

Late Show host Stephen Colbert discussed the Democrats taking the House on Tuesday stating the party can now

"It's not ok for someone to break the law and be above the law".

Protest organizers said Trump's naming of Matthew Whitaker, Sessions' chief of staff, to be acting attorney general on November 7 was a "deliberate attempt to obstruct the special counsel's investigation".

In an effort to keep the investigation independent, demonstrators around the country began protesting Thursday, Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. local time.

As the sun set on November 8, two American flags could be seen above a crowd gathered at the corner of Main Street and East Wheelock Street for a protest called "Nobody Is Above the Law - Mueller Protection Rapid Response".

Donna Perdue, who organized the rally, said they were there to tell the president that even in Valparaiso they have a voice.

"He worships him", a longtime friend said of Whitaker and Trump.

In an interview with the David Webb Show, on audio obtained by Mother Jones, Whitaker essentially said that Trump can and should do whatever he wants with the Mueller investigation.

In cities nationwide protestors took to the streets urging Congress to protect Mueller's probe.

The president hasn't been charged with any wrongdoing, but federal prosecutors have said that a grand jury investigation is ongoing and it targets unspecified "others".

"We thank Attorney General Jeff Sessions for his service, and wish him well!" But some Republicans now question whether Sessions could easily get elected again, considering his strained relationship with Trump, who lashed out at Sessions for months in public and private over his recusal.

US Attorney General Jeff Sessions was sacked by Donald Trump Wednesday, casting a cloud over the Russian Federation investigation that has dogged the White House, a day after Republicans lost control over the lower house of Congress.

Whitaker, a former United States attorney from Iowa and a Hawkeye, has been an outspoken critic of the probe.

In a July 10, 2017, appearance on CNN, Whitaker shrugged off the idea that the Trump Tower meeting could be part of a criminal conspiracy.

But Heide Moore, of Cottonwood, said she wasn't surprised at the turnout.

I would like to get into two of the things that you reported today.

David Bosel, a retired political scientist, described Trump's attempts to scupper the Mueller investigation as "dictatorial" and accused most Republicans in Congress of helping Trump tilt the U.S. towards "fascism". "He's a highly respected man, especially by law enforcement, and I think he's going to do a great job".

Speaking in Kentucky on Friday, McConnell said he expects acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker to be "a very interim" attorney general.

Spats between Trump and journalists can sometimes seem circus-like, but critics say the president's hot temper illustrates his deeper disdain for Washington norms - and allegedly for the rule of law. "Worth a read", he tweeted.

"Calls for an independent counsel or commission to investigate allegations that Russian Federation tried to interfere with our elections ring hollow when similar calls for special counsels during the scandals of the Obama administration were dismissed out of hand by the same people making these demands now", Whitaker said.
