Sex better than coaching! - Guardiola laughs off praise from Alves

Barcelona’s players celebrate by throwing their manager Pep Guardiola up in the air

"I like working with competitive people who want to win", said Alves, quoted by Marca.

Guardiola was told Alves, one of the stars of Guardiola's two-time Champions League-winning Barcelona team, had claimed being coached by the Catalan was "better than sex".

Mourinho became Real Madrid manager in the summer of 2010 and the Portuguese was bested to domestic and European honours by his foe Guardiola for the most part of his time managing Los Blancos. Though, we can never just assume Manchester United will lose. Remember, Alves and Pep did spend four years together at Barcelona.

So, how does the former Barcelona boss feel about the analogy?

Manchester City's Abu Dhabi owners are brazenly trying to "sportswash" their country's "deeply tarnished image" by pouring money into the Premier League club, according to Amnesty International.

The 35-year-old has now revealed the reasons behind his dramatic U-turn, which reportedly left Guardiola livid.

Alves added: "When things went wrong, Pep always had the solution, he always had this magical touch which allowed us to improve". "Pep knew my intentions".

"I thought it was done, that I was going there to work with him". He knows the enormous respect I have for them, which is why I wanted to work with him again until something else came up.

"I know that if the people close to me are happy, I am happy, and I can do my job better".

"For me, it's a shame not to work again with Guardiola because he knows that I love him, but at the same time".

But, when asked whether he regrets not playing in England, Alves hinted there might still be another chapter in his already illustrious career.

"It was very special for me, all done in a more relaxed way, to see what you did and were part of, but also with a different point of view from when you were doing it all live", said the right-back, signed from Sevilla in July 2008. "There is a list where they love me a lot, like Dani".
