Staggering Stats Of Camp Fire’s First Day

New mandatory evacuations issued as 4,000-acre Woolsey fire tears into Oak Park burning homes

Nine people have died as wildfires engulfed large parts of California.

"The preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were located in vehicles that were overcome by the Camp Fire". Dozens of people have been reported missing and remained unaccounted for Friday morning.

The remains of five of the victims in Northern California were discovered in or near burned out cars, three outside residences and one inside a home, Butte County's Honea said. The big wildfire here in Southern California, known as the "Woolsey Fire", quadrupled in size by Friday evening, covering more than 22 square miles, with no containment. Traffic accidents turned roads into gridlock and residents abandoned vehicles and ran from the flames carrying children and pets, officials said.

A Chico County police officer called in to "Shepard Smith Reporting" Friday to describe the devastation a deadly, fast-moving wildfire has caused in the town of Paradise, California. At least 100 structures have burned, and the blaze had jumped the 101 Freeway and was spreading south.

Some 20,000 people have been ordered to evacuate, according to the Houston Chronicle, and multiple highways in the area have been closed.

"The magnitude of destruction we have seen is really unbelievable and heartbreaking and our hearts go to everybody who has been affected by this", said Mark Ghilarducci, the director of the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services.

In total, there are now 14 wildfires blazing in California and acting governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency.

The wildfire was reported at 6:30 a.m., Rick Carhart, a Cal Fire spokesman, said. Among those evacuated were all of the patients at the Feather River Hospital in Paradise.

More than 2,200 firefighters were battling the blaze, backed up by helicopters and water tankers.

"Fire is now burning out of control and heading into populated areas of Malibu", the city said in a statement online.

In the first official report of fatalities, the Butte County Sheriff tweeted on Friday that investigators had found five dead bodies.

"The challenges are, number one, competing resources", Richardson said.

'We're getting them on other vehicles with room. "We're kind of all shaking right now".

Fanned by ferocious Santa Ana winds and fueled by dry tinder, the fires immolated a mountain town and jangled the nerves of many tens of thousands of residents forced to evacuate their homes.

The L.A. Times reported that a total of 75,000 homes in both Ventura and Los Angeles counties are now under mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders, including Westlake Village and parts of Calabasas, where numerous entertainers including Alyssa Milano and Kim Kardashian have lavish homes.

More worrying is the Woolsey Fire, which threatens about 75,000 homes in both Ventura and Los Angeles Counties - including the entire city of Malibu. "This is a very unsafe wind-driven fire".

Cindy Huge, an American Red Cross representative, told that station that even though the center is at capacity with 250 residents, no one in need will be turned away.

Celebrities were among those forced to flee, including Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian.

"Just landed back home and had 1 hour to pack up & evacuate our home".
