Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fractures 3 ribs in fall

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been taken to George Washington hospital following a fall at the Court on Wednesday night.

The fall happened in her office at the Supreme Court in Washington. According to a statement from the Supreme Court, doctors admitted Ginsburg for further "observation and treatment".

The court's 5-4 conservative majority was restored last month when the U.S. Senate confirmed President Donald Trump's appointee Brett Kavanaugh after a contentious nomination process in which Kavanaugh denied a sexual assault allegation dating to the 1980s.

Ginsburg has survived bouts with colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer, and had a stent implanted to open a blocked artery in 2014. President Trump and new acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker were expected to attend.

The timing of 85-year-old RBG's fall is ominous, to say the least, if you're on the left. The extent of Ginsburg's injury was not clear. But they can be very painful and controlling pain is key.

Ginsburg, the subject of a recent documentary on her life, was nominated to the Supreme Court by Bill Clinton, taking the oath of office in early 1993. However, she reportedly hired clerks for the term that extends into 2020, indicating she has no plans to retire.
