Trump claims video distributed by White House wasn’t altered

US President Donald Trump gets into a heated exchange with CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta as NBC correspondent Peter Alexander looks on during a post-election press conference in the East Room of the White House in Washington

During a press conference on Friday, President Donald Trump targeted Ryan while answering a question about CNN's Jim Acosta, whose White House credentials were revoked after his heated exchange with Trump on Wednesday. "I don't think he's a smart person, but he's got a loud voice", Trump said.

That's a good description of Wednesday's testy encounter between CNN White House reporter Jim Acosta and President Trump, which started with Acosta challenging the president's claim that the refugee migrant march toward the U.S. border amounted to a unsafe "invasion". We will, however, never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern.

Both SPJ and the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) indicated that the White House made the decision because Acosta asked tough questions. Mr. Acosta stated his opinion that the caravan wasn't an "invasion", as Mr. Trump has asserted, instead of asking a question. "CNN should be ashamed of themselves, having you work for them", he said.

Abba Shapiro, a video production trainer, says he noted the anomalies in the video tweeted by White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders.

Yet even in the undoctored video, Acosta can be seen trying to pushing away the intern's arm as she tried to reach for the microphone after the president clearly said, "That's enough" to Acosta.

Later on, CNN reporter Abby Phillip asked about Trump's appointment of Matthew Whitaker as acting attorney general. She knows it. These are dark times and not only because of the pack of lying liars in charge. In fact, she asked the most pertinent question of the day.

Media organizations criticized Sanders and called for Acosta's pass to be reinstated. "She gets publicity, and then she gets a pay raise".

In an interview with Fox News on Thursday, senior White House communications advisor Mercedes Schlapp insisted that the intern was "shaken up" and "intimidated" by Acosta and added "what we are seeing is bad behavior that can not be tolerated".

Despite the video's dubious origins, Sanders doubled down in a White House statement on Thursday saying "The question is: did the reporter make contact or not?" "I watch you a lot. That's not doctoring", Trump said, also telling the press, "Nobody manipulated it, give me a break". Trump followed up Friday, calling Acosta unprofessional and stated that he hadn't decided whether Acosta's suspension would be permanent, but forewarned that "it could be others" who get suspended.
