Two unannounced Pixel phones hinted at in Google code

An ARCore APK teardown reveals supposed mid-range Google smartphones with codename ‘Bonito’ and ‘Sargo

We heard rumors of a mid-range Google smartphone earlier this year, purportedly codenamed Bonito.

He then followed the tweet up with another saying this device was codenamed Bonito, and also said the handset was now scheduled for release in the first half of 2019.

An APK teardown of Google's latest ARCore v1.5 has revealed support for two mysterious codenamed devices, which can not be linked to any known phone.

Google popularly codenames its phones after fish and Bonito and Sargo are fish of different sizes, hinting at the different screen sizes of the unannounced phones. As it has become the norm, a teardown of the latest ARCore app usually reveals new devices that have gained ARCore support. As is typically the case, it wasn't accompanied by any information about the device.

Bonito isn't the only codename found in the APK file, however, as the outlet also found a reference to Sargo. Back in June, reliable leaker Roland Quandt tweeted that Google was working on a mobile device that would use the mid-range Snapdragon 710. If so then - as Android Police notes - the Sargo could be the smaller of the two, since it's a smaller fish.

This doesn't necessarily confirm that Sargo is another Google phone, but how many manufacturers name their devices after fish?

The Bonito codename has been around for a while, though it was suspected cancelled when Blueline and Crosshatch emerged as the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. These are all just speculations by the way, so take with a pinch of salt.
