Benfica to meet with Mourinho in coming days

"Who would not like to have Mourinho?".

The Red Devils informed the 55-year-old that his services were no longer required at Old Trafford on December 18 .

"I have never confirmed, nor denied any offers throughout my career", he told CMTV.

Madrid are having a particularly bad time at the moment, with interim manager Santiago Solari struggling to illicit the same response that Zinedine Zidane did when he was promoted from youth coach to senior manager, and president Florentino Perez is said to be keen to install an authoritarian like Mourinho to return the discipline to a listless squad.

"I never got into this game of news feeding".

'(But) I think I can say that today, I don't have any intention of coming back to work in Portugal, ' he said. "At the moment, I'm fine as I am", he added.

"I don't really want to go there, but the best way to respect a great club [Benfica] and a great president is to say that I was not offered".

The Portugal tactician got fired after his side were thrashed 3-1 by current table toppers Liverpool earlier in December.

Manchester United paid Jose Mourinho's £15 million (about R265.5 million) compensation package immediately after he was sacked.

The Daily Mail reports that a source close to Mourinho - whose contract was due to run till the end of the 2019/20 campaign with the option of an extra season -revealed that compensation had been paid.

"When you leave a club, you do not wash dirty clothes, when you leave a club, you do not seek to, at least publicly, do any kind of criticism, it's an ended chapter and that's how I always did it".

His final months at Manchester United, however, have put a blotch on an nearly impeccable career to date, something which Mourinho will be eager to rectify at whatever club he decides to go to next.

Mourinho's first fully-fledged job as a manager was with the Eagles where he took over from former Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes in 2000.
