Bus driver rescues toddler wandering on United States overpass in freezing conditions

Video shows bus driver rescuing baby wandering alone near road

MCTS officials say just before 8 a.m. on December 22 a bus driver spotted something shocking in front of her bus - a baby boy wandering alone on a freeway overpass near 4th and Mitchell in Milwaukee, our Milwaukee affiliate WITI Fox 6 Now reports.

A Facebook post by Milwaukee County Transit System said the temperature was below freezing and all the child was wearing was a nappy and a onesie.

Ivic quickly ran across the busy street, stopping traffic in the process, to grab the cold and crying child.

In the video, Ivic, a mother of two, can be heard saying, "I'm shaken".

The baby girl was unharmed.

A passenger then gave the child her coat to help keep the girl warm until the fire and police departments arrived on the scene.

Speaking to Fox 6 Now, the child's father said he believes his wife forgot the toddler after going to the church across the freeway. When he saw the police gathered near his home, and noticed his daughter was not there, he ran outside. He was later reunited with his father, MCTS said.

Milwaukee police told FOX6 News no charges were filed in this case.

MCTS executive Chris Abele, in a press conference Thursday, commended Ivic's actions.

Ms Ivic said she was grateful she was in the right place at the right time to keep the baby safe.

Ivic has been in Milwaukee for 12 years - and an employee of MCTS for five years.

MCTS drivers have found nine lost or missing children in recent years, according to their website.
