Craig McLachlan: actor charged with indecent assault by Victoria police

The award-winning performer has been charged with one count of common assault and eight counts of indecent assault.

Prominent actor and the former lead actor of Seven's Doctor Blake Mysteries, Craig McLachlan, has been charged by Victoria Police for a number of indecent assault offences, the ABC is reporting.

A statement from police has stated that he has been charged on summons to appear at Melbourne Magistrate's Court on February 8, 2019.

McLachlan won the Gold Logie in 1990 as the most popular personality on Australian television.

McLachlan is seeking $6.5 million in special damages, and his defamation hearing is set down for four weeks from February 4.

He also had a brief career as a singer - reaching number two in the United Kingdom singles charts with his 1990 song Mona.

McLachlan is perhaps best known for appearing in Neighbours and Home and Away as well as the BBC One spy drama Bugs.

In 2013, he was cast as Frank N Furter in a stage production of the Rocky Horror Show touring Australia, but in 2018 was accused of inappropriate behaviour by several female co-stars.

The show returned to air past year without McLachlan in the lead role and was retitled The Blake Mysteries.
