Meghan made patron of National Theatre

Meghan's patronages: Duchess of Sussex's four new causes revealed

Information about Her Royal Highness taking on the National Theatre role was accidentally leaked yesterday on the organisation's website.

The former "Suits" actress will take over two patronages from the queen, including the National Theatre (a flawless match for the former Hollywood star) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities, which offers scholarships and "life-changing educational opportunities", Kensington Palace said in a statement.

The announcement is a major milestone for the American-born former actress, outlining the first steps of her public life as a member of the monarchy.

The newlywed royal is now a patron of four organisations, Kensington Palace revealed in a press release on Thursday.

The Duchess of Sussex wore a chic, workwear-inspired outfit today as she paid a visit to one of her first patronages Smart Works.

Meanwhile, it's no surprise that Meghan, a vocal feminist, chose an organization focused on helping women regain the skills and confidence to find jobs after unemployment.

Apart from her new positions with these four organizations, Meghan will continue her work with The Royal Foundation, of which she is joint Patron alongside Harry, Will and Kate. The Duchess has privately been working with the charity over the past year.

On the furry friends side, Markle becomes the royal patron of The Mayhew, an organization dedicated to animal welfare for pets.

The duchess has had private visits with the organisations throughout a year ago, according to the press release.

On the appointment of Meghan to the role, Norris said: "It is a privilege to welcome The Duchess of Sussex as our new Patron".

Meghan Markle is expected to give birth to her first baby this spring.

The National Theatre was given permission to add the prefix Royal to its name in 1988, to mark its 25th birthday, but it has not changed its moniker.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, attends a garden party at Buckingham Palace on 22 May 2018.

The Theatre is one of the U.K.'s most prominent, publicly funded, performing arts venues and was a role handed to her by her grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth.
