Nokia 8 Sirocco finally gets a slice of Android 9 Pie

Nokia 8.1 Plus with hole-in-display design and dual-camera setup leaks

For selfies, the phone relies on a 20MP sensor that is housed within the phone's display notch to deliver the job.

In Europe, the Nokia 8.1's retail price of €399 places it firmly in mid-range smartphone territory. It shows the edge-to-edge display of the alleged Nokia 8.1 Plus with a hole in the display on the top left corner like the Galaxy A8s. OnLeaks, together with 91Mobiles, leaked the handset by sharing renders and a 360-degree video. While initially slower to jump on new trends, the manufacturer has recently become quick to adopt not new technologies but new notches.

Despite the “Plus” designation, the phone is essentially the same size as the regular Nokia 8.1 – its screen measures 6.22”. The bottom will see a single speaker next to a Type-C port.

Today, HMD Global is proud to announce that the Nokia 8.1 smartphone is the latest smartphone lineup to kick off 2019.

Around back we can see that Nokia's equipping the 8.1 Plus with dual cameras, what appears to be a two-tone LED flash, and a fingerprint sensor. Leaked marketing materials showed that the company would be re-branding this specific device with a new name and using it for the Android One program. The Android 9 Pie update ensures that Nokia smartphones improve with time, thanks to intuitive AI which learns user habits to ensure the most effective and efficient experience. The Nokia 9 PureView is rumoured to come with a more traditional 18:9 display and will highlight a penta-camera system on the back.
