Oscars 2019 will have no host for first time in 30 years

Oscars to have no host this year—report

After Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting the 91st Oscars this year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will reportedly use a rotating cast of hosts for various segments of the show, according to THR.

After almost 3 decades, the Oscars producers have decided that the show must go on, even without a host.

"I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's.this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many unbelievable talented artists", he wrote on Twitter. Controversy began when his homophobic tweets resurfaced online.

Now that Kevin Hart has officially turned down the second chance at hosting the Oscars, even after some poking and prodding from Ellen DeGeneres, the ceremony is officially without a host.

Hart was originally tapped to host the Oscars in December.

"I want everybody to know I'm done with it", Hart told Good Morning America's host. "Right now from a time perspective, I don't really have time".

The last hostless show was in 1989, which wasn't well-received, with Rob Lowe and Eileen Bowman as Snow White performing an over-the-top song-and-dance number.

The 91st Oscars will air on February 24, 2019, and is being produced by Donna Gigliotti and co-produced and directed by Glenn Weiss.

The Hollywood Reporter published an article Thursday claiming producers of the upcoming Academy Awards telecast are scrambling to get as many stars from the "Avengers" franchise as they can to appear on stage at some point.
