Police investigate after US woman in coma gives birth at care facility

Police seek staff DNA over vegetative woman's baby

Alejandro Benally, Chief of the San Carlos Apache Police Department also had a statement included in the letter, "At this point, this matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Phoenix Police Department".

Police said they didn't have any updates Tuesday but Sgt. Tommy Thompson said Friday there was an ongoing investigation.

"She was not in a position to give consent to any of this". "This was a helpless victim who was sexually assaulted".

This story has been updated to clarify the woman's medical condition.

Hacienda Healthcare did not respond to InsideEdition.com's request for comment on the alleged incident.

Today, the San Carlos Apache Tribe (the "Tribe") learned of the tragic circumstances surrounding [redacted], an enrolled member of the Tribe.

"Sadly, one of her caretaker was not to be trusted and took advantage of her.it is my hope that justice will be served".

"On behalf of the Tribe, I am deeply shocked and horrified at the treatment of one of our member", Chairman of the Tribe Terry Rambler said in a press release on January 8.

Thompson said investigators initially didn't want to say anything that could cause a suspect to "go underground or go into hiding".

Thompson says police were called December 29 about a newborn in distress at a Hacienda HealthCare facility. Authorities served a search warrant Tuesday, a day after the provider's CEO resigned.

She requires around-the-clock care and was "in a completely vulnerable state while a resident and patient at Hacienda Healthcare", Micheaels said.

The family of a woman in a vegetative state who recently gave birth after being raped is speaking out.

A lawyer for the patient's family said in a statement Tuesday that the baby boy will "be well cared for", but that they are shocked and outraged by the "neglect of their daughter".

The state's online complaint database for care facilities shows multiple complaints about the Hacienda center going back to 2013.

The incidents were not relayed to an administrator and the employee was later fired.

Executive vice president of the board Gary Orman said Hacienda "will accept nothing less than a full accounting of this absolutely horrifying situation, an unprecedented case that has devastated everyone involved, from the victim and her family to Hacienda staff at every level of our organisation".

Jon Meyers, executive director of The Arc of Arizona, an advocacy group for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, called the allegations "disturbing, to put it mildly".

A source familiar with the situation also told Arizona Family the facility has adjusted its policy on male employees and female patients.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey's office has called the case "deeply troubling".

Peter King, who once considered admitting his daughter at Hacienda, told KPHO-TV he never felt comfortable with having her there, and said the recent news was confirmation that his gut was right.
