Powerball prize blows out to $100 million

Powerball is played each Wednesday and Saturday night

The $100 million, matched only twice before, will be drawn on Thursday.

More than 750,000 tickets are forecast to be sold across the state ahead of the second largest jackpot offered in the game's 23-year history in Australia.

The jackpot comes after last night's draw was delayed by technical issues as a result of the huge number of entries, organisers said.

A total of 2,467,864 did win some money last night, with a lucky fifteen taking home $81,533.30 each.

"While we hope that next week is the week these lottery records are broken, it's hard to know just how high the jackpot will go if the Powerball winning numbers don't come up for Australian lottery players".

Of these entries, nearly two-thirds were quick-pick entires, and nearly one-in-four of the winning entries were PowerHIT entries.

While it stresses that the Powerball is a "random game of chance" and "every number has an equal chance of being drawn", the Lott has still unveiled the game's most frequently drawn numbers of the past couple of months.

A lucky player matched four white balls and the Powerball - 07-24-33-49-50 PB: 4 - on January 10, 2018 to win $50,000.

Punters have been warned to avoid choosing numbers 1, 2, 4 or 18 because they haven't made an appearance in the last 18 months.

The Lott spokesman Matt Hart told news.com.au the delay was due to the larger-than-usual volume of entrants this time around.
