South Africa thrash Pakistan by 107 runs, seal series sweep

Hasan Ali appeals for an LBW on day one of the third cricket Test match between South Africa and Pakistan

Watch day four of the third Test between South Africa and Pakistan from 7.55am, Monday on Sky Sports Cricket.

Chasing a target of 381 runs, Pakistan were dismissed for 273 runs with middle-order batsman Asad Shafiq top-scoring with 65 runs.

He claimed three of the last four wickets to end with 3/75.

The Proteas claimed a 107-run victory on the fourth morning of the third and final Test match against Pakistan to record a 3-0 series whitewash and moved to number two on the ICC Test rankings.

South Africa vs Pakistan, 3rd Test: Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed surpassed former India captain MS Dhoni and former Australia wicketkeeper to create a world record.

It was Olivier who made a double breakthrough in the third over of play on Monday when he removed Babar Azam - another searing bouncer targeting the batsman's throat - and Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed first ball - a attractive delivery that nipped back and hit off-stump.

Olivier was duly named the man-of-the-series for the 24 wickets he took in his six completed innings where he was a constant thorn in the side of the Pakistan batsmen with his pace and bounce in Centurion‚ Cape Town and Johannesburg.

In the second innings, powered by Quinton de Kock's century they got to 303 and the target for the visitors was 380.

Lower down the order, Shadab Khan offered some resistance with an unbeaten knock of 47 runs but that only resulted in delaying the inevitable.

"We were in a nice position after the first day (having bowled South Africa out for 262), but could not capitalise on that with our batting", Sarfraz said.

The 35-year-old cricketer enjoys an extraordinary strike rate of almost 42, which is the sixth-best amongst all bowlers who have bowled atleast two thousand deliveries. "He bowled very well and he bowled fast". "Shan Masood played really well (with the bat) and Babar showed his class. Shan and Babar were the positives (from the series)".

"This is right up there and extremely proud of the guys and it's a good way to start the year", said Elgar. "They're awesome to work with".

The Proteas will face Pakistan in a five match One-Day series starting in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, followed by a three T20 worldwide series.
