Steve Buscemi’s wife Jo Andres, filmmaker and choreographer, dies age 65

Jo Andres and Steve Buscemi

Jo Andres, choreographer, artist, filmmaker, and wife to Steve Buscemi, passed away earlier this week on January 7th at the age of 65.

The couple, who share their 29-year-old son Lucian, have been together for more than 32 years, after tying the knot back in 1987.

The family reportedly began the funeral procession from their home with multiple of Buscemi's costars, family and friends in attendance.

Andres was married to Buscemi - whose wide body of work includes The Big Lebowski, Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos - for over 30 years.

Her husband was one of her biggest fans, with the comedic actor gushing in a 2009 Q&A with The Independent that his favorite work of art is "something by my wife Jo Andres". The work aired on PBS and screened at numerous film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, and Sundance Film Festival.

A cause of death has not been released to the public, according to E!

Andres and Buscemi attended their final event together seven months ago in New York City.

Andres rose to prominence during the 1980s with her artistic self-described "film/dance/light performances".

"She paints, she makes films, she has done performance", he said at the time.

FDNY Firefighters from Buscemi's Ladder Company were seen at the Brooklyn home (he was a volunteer firefighter on 9/11), and helped as the wicker casket was carried out.

"If we don't have a place where artists can [have] a voice then it's a loss from the whole culture", Andres told NBC News in 2011.
