Trump cancels Davos trip as shutdown continues

Donald Trump Says He Will Cancel Trip to Davos if Shutdown Continues

Democrats took over the House on January 3, and have proposed several bills to reopen the government, but have rejected any funding for the wall, ever, calling it "immoral".

President Donald Trump announced he will not be attending this year's World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Trump, who is visiting the US-Mexico border on Thursday, tweeted from Texas that he will be "respectfully canceling" the Davos trip because of the "Democrats intransigence on border security". The president is requesting Congress to approve $5.7 billion to help fulfill a campaign promise to build a wall along the US southern border. Trump said in a Twitter post. That's still on, but if the shutdown continues ... It's been very successful when I went.

The partial USA government shutdown is in its 20th day, with no sign of an agreement. It concludes on January 25.

The Trump administration is engaged in trade talks with the European Union and China, among others.

China's Vice President Wang Qishan is also expected to attend, but it is not clear if there were any arrangements for a meeting between him and Trump during the annual gathering.

'I really do. I think that China is actually much easier to deal with than the opposition party'.

Trump traveled to Davos in 2018, delivering a speech on the restored American economy.
