Xiaomi cements Redmi Independency, unveils a new Brand logo

Xiaomi's new Redmi Note 7 is significantly cheaper than other phones with a 48-megapixel camera

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660 is powering the handset, and around back you'll find an impressive 48MP + 5MP dual camera combo.

The display is 6.3-inches diagonally and has a water droplet-style notch.

Unveiled by CEO Lei Jun, the new Redmi logo is a simple and minimalistic one - that simply says "Redmi by Xiaomi", so its evident that Xiaomi will still be in charge of future Redmi Phones. It also has a radically different design, especially for Xiaomi smartphones-a 2.5D glass back panel with dual tone gradient.

Talking about the innards, the Redmi Note 7 comes with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660 SoC running the show, and, it is offered in three memory configurations - 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage, 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage, and 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage. The storage space can be expanded further up to 256GB via microSD card. In addition, the Redmi Note 7 features a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and an infrared sensor for controlling appliances. However, it's not clear if Xiaomi will be releasing the Redmi 7 or Redmi Note 7 at that event.

The Redmi Note 7 also comes with the new 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor Samsung GM1 sensor and it has a secondary 5-megapixel camera for AI effects.

Xiaomi is known for making phones with some of the best performance per dollar figures in the market. This rear camera also comes with features like EIS and Night Mode. Redmi Note 7, however, is a lot affordable smartphone. It has a large 4000mAh battery like previous Redmi phones and is compatible with 18 watts quick, wired charging. On the connectivity front, the handset offers dual 4G, VoLTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Global Positioning System. Other specifications include a healthy 4000 mAh battery (all Redmi Note series phones have traditionally packed mammoth cells), and for the first time, the Redmi Note 7 (and probably later variants) is juiced up with a USB Type-C. The 64GB storage variant with 4GB and 6GB of RAM is priced at CNY 1199 (approx INR 11,999) and CNY 1399 (approx INR 13,999) respectively.

Mi A2 was launched in India for Rs 16,999 for the 4GB RAM model, while the 6GB RAM variant was priced at Rs 19,999.

The smartphone will go on sale in China at a starting price of 999 Yuan (Rs 10,300 approximately).
