Toronto police say they have identified the woman who was filmed in a now-viral video throwing a chair from a balcony onto the Gardiner Expressway over the weekend.

Hopkinson confirmed police have spoken with the woman or someone acting as her representative.

"When you look at this video, anybody would look at it and think this is very, very risky".

The chair that was thrown over the balcony is seen fluttering in the wind as it makes it way down towards the highway.

Hopkinson said he obtained a copy of the video on Sunday and police began to investigate on Monday.

On Monday, a video began circulating on social media that appears to show a woman dressed in black trousers, a black leather coat and black high heels tossing the chair over the balcony which is several storeys high.

Police also say in a news release that the suspect threw other items from the balcony that landed near the entrance to another condo building.

Hopkinson said the woman in the video could be charged with common nuisance and mischief, endangering life, which is an extreme level of "mischief".

Officers are giving her a chance to contact them or have a lawyer do so.

Police have described the incident as "outrageous".

The items included two chairs, Hopkinson said.
