Francisco Lindor (calf) expected to be out almost two months

Report: Indians SS Francisco Lindor to Miss Opening Day With Calf Strain

Hopefully for the Indians' sake, Lindor will be 100 percent and ready to go for Opening Day against the Minnesota Twins on March 28.

Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor is expected to miss opening day as he recovers from a calf injury, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale.

A three-time All-Star, Lindor batted.277 with 38 homers, 92 RBI and was tied for the league lead with 129 runs. Prospects Yu Chang and Eric Stamets, who shared time at shortstop last season at Class AAA Columbus, will be in camp.

Remember, that's game activity, not big league action.

Lindor suffered the calf strain working out in Orlando, Fla. while preparing for Spring Training.

-The New York Mets signed veteran middle infielder Danny Espinosa to a minor league contract, the team announced.

From a certain perspective, even though a repeat of previous year has been hard to foresee even if he was healthy right now, Lindor could now become a relative value in fantasy drafts and auctions. In 2015, he finished second in AL Rookie of the Year votes and has a career.288/.350/.487 slash line. He stole 25 bases in 35 attempts and posted a career-high.871 OPS.

The Cleveland Indians may start the season without their best player. With the Indians losing the services of Michael Brantley, Yan Gomes, Yonder Alonso, and Edwin Encarnacion over the offseason, so they may be even more reliant on Lindor to carry the offense in 2019.

Joyce hit 25 home runs and drove in 68 runs in 2017 but played in only 83 games last season while battling back injuries. He played the past two seasons in Oakland. A left-handed hitter, he made $6 million in the final season of a $10 million, two-year deal.
