Jussie Smollett gives incomplete phone records to cops

Jussie Smollett

Actor Jussie Smollett on Tuesday dismissed any suggestion that he has been less than cooperative with police since the star of the "Empire" television drama reported he was attacked by two masked men in Chicago last month.

According to another tweet from Elgas, "Smollett requested responding Chicago police officers turn off their body cameras as they arrived to take his report".

A neighbor claimed to have seen a "redneck" with a rope but Chicago police were unable to find video surveillance from the area to support this.

The police claim that Smollett has refused to give over his phone, which impedes their investigation and prompts the police to doubt Smolett's story.

The assault is being treated as a hate crime since the perpetrators allegedly called Smollett a "fa##ot" and a "ni##r" during the attack.

"Despite my frustrations and deep concern with certain inaccuracies and misrepresentations that have been spread, I still believe that justice will be served", he said in his first statement following the alleged attack.

The statement said Smollett had a good reason for turning over what police called a redacted file.

Smollett has now reportedly released a heavily redacted record of his calls to police however, police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said the records "are not sufficient and do not meet the burden of a criminal investigation", according to the Chicago Tribune.

Smollett has told police that he was walking in the 300 block of East North Water Street about 2 a.m. when two people walked up to him, yelled the slurs, hit him in the face, poured a substance - suspected to be bleach - on him and put a "thin, light rope" around his neck.

"I've been in this neighborhood five years. They were limited and redacted but detectives will analyze them".

Clearly, that anonymous person is delusional, since incidents like the Laquan McDonald murder to 15 men exonerated for false arrests show Chicago is far from "the most liberal city", which has an epic history of racism.

The New York Post has dispatched several reporters to Chicago to retrace Smollett's steps in the minutes before the alleged attack.

Smollett's spokesperson told The Post that he "is the victim here" and "Chicago PD has repeatedly informed us that they find Jussie's account of what happened that night consistent and credible", the statement read.

"We need something a little more concrete and direct if we're going to be able to say for a fact the conversation occurred", Chicago Police Spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi told The Post in reference to a conversation Smollett said he had with his manager at the time of the attack.
