A petition demanding 21 Savage's release was signed by more than 460,000 people - with Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z and Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez among those backing the campaign for his freedom.

ICE immigration officials detained the rap star, and claimed he was a British national who was living in the country illegally, after is Visa expired in 2005.

Due to their efforts, the star was also granted an expedited hearing.

The rapper was granted an expedited hearing after speaking with ICE officials to clarify his legal standing and his bond eligibility, his lawyers, Charles Kuck, Dina LaPolt and Alex Spiro, said in a statement.

Despite all the attention over the past nine days, Abraham-Joseph's detention was barely addressed during the Grammy Awards this past Sunday, where he had been expected to perform.

Abraham-Joseph was nominated for two awards at the Grammys, including record of the year for "Rockstar" alongside Post Malone. "He actually came to the USA from the a teen and overstayed his visa", ICE spokesperson Brian Cox told CNN. "My best friend who died, his uncle had a whole lot of dope money, so he started buying me studio sets and s**t", 21 Savage said. They said last week that Abraham-Joseph came to the USA when he was 7 and remained in the country until June 2005, when he went to visit the United Kingdom for a month.

It's unclear what will happen to Mr. Abraham Joseph, but it's likely his situation is not good.

Previously, they acknowledged that he was British, brought to the USA aged seven, and lost his legal status in the United States when he was a child "through no fault of his own".

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) say the musician is a convicted felon.

"He will not forget this ordeal or any of the other fathers, sons, family members, and faceless people, he was locked up with or that remain unjustly incarcerated across the country", the statement issued on Abraham-Joseph's behalf concludes. And asks for your hearts and minds to be with them'.
