10 mins before attack, New Zealand mosque attacker mailed manifesto to PM

New Zealand Police Commissioner Mike Bush on Sunday told reporters four other people arrested during Friday's police operation attack have either been released or charged with "tangential" offences.

Fifty people were injured and Christchurch hospital is still treating 36, of whom 12 are in a critical condition.

The terrorist who led an attack in which 50 people were gunned down in two mosques is believed to have travelled to Britain on a two-month tour of Europe which galvinised his extremism, the Telegraph can reveal.

He has so far been charged with one count of murder, although judge Paul Kellar said it's "reasonable to assume" that more charges will follow, after yesterday's deadly shooting.

He was identified as Brenton Harrison Tarrant, a 28-year-old Australian, reported CNN.

A host of world leaders, including US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Theresa May, expressed sorrow and disgust at the attacks.

'Just 24 hours after the Christchurch shooting New Zealand bans semiautomatic guns!' she wrote in reference to New Zealand Attorney General David Parker's comments about banning the controversial weapons. "There are obviously questions being asked of how this person was able to enter the country and undertake this act of terror", the premier said.

A man and a woman were held in custody while police investigated their involvement, if any, in the two shooting attacks.

Tarrant, handcuffed and wearing a white prison suit, stood silently in the Christchurch District Court where he was remanded without a plea.

Ms Ardern, meanwhile, also vowed New Zealand would be changing its gun laws, after it was discovered Tarrant was licensed and had five guns, some modified.

New Zealand has previously tried to change its gun laws, with the most recent attempt coming two years ago.

Dozens more were wounded when Tarrant opened fire on worshippers in two mosques.

Police officials said they understand the religious duty of the Islamic faith to bury the deceased as soon as possible and are "working closely with the Chief Coroner to do everything possible to expedite the process".

"At just that moment, there was one young guy who usually takes care of the mosque and helps with parking and other stuff, so (the man) saw an opportunity and he pounced over to him and grabbed his gun".

New Zealand is reeling from what Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has described as a well-planned terrorist attack.

Tarrant posted a manifesto online before the attack, suggesting a racially-motivated act of terrorism.

We know that from this devastation and deep mourning, the people of New Zealand will unite to show that such evil can never defeat compassion and tolerance.

Police recovered two semi-automatic weapons, two shotguns and a lever-action firearm after the attacks. Police say that this person was a member of the public armed with a gun with the intention of assisting officers.

In the video live-streamed by Tarrant, a man inside a mosque appears to say: "Welcome brother", as a gunman approaches.

Aziz said: "He gets into his vehicle and I just got the gun and threw it on his window like an arrow and blasted his window".
