Chelsea Clinton berated by NYU student for 'stoking' hatred behind NZ massacre

Chelsea was in attendance at a vigil in New York University after gunman, Brenton Harrison Tarrant, attacked the two mosques, wanting to just pay her respects to the victims. There, angry students confronted the author and activist, blaming her "rhetoric" for the prevalence of violent attacks.

"This, right here, is the result of the massacre stoked by people like you and the words that you have put out into the world", one student said.

The student's reference to "the rhetoric you put out there" has to do with a tweet by Clinton on February 11, criticizing clear-cut anti-Semitic comments by Congresswoman Ilhan Omar that US government support for the State of Israel is "all about the Benjamins, baby". But Chelsea Clinton isn't responsible for that, and she certainly isn't responsible for the actions of a deranged white nationalist in New Zealand.

"We should expect all elected officials, regardless of party, and all public figures to not traffic in anti-Semitism", Clinton tweeted on February 10. Clinton was among the many prominent voices denouncing Omar for her remarks on Israel, which were deemed anti-Semetic by many US political figures. And I want you to know that and to feel that deeply - 49 people died because of a rhetoric you put out there'.

Video of the incident, which went viral, showed the pro-Muslim students blame Clinton for the massacre. "Anyone who doesn't understand this is part of the problem".

In response, Chelsea said: 'I'm so sorry that you feel that way.

Clinton tweeted to Omar after the accusation, saying, "Co-signed as an American". Clinton called out the freshman Democrat for allegedly trafficking in anti-Semitism.

On Friday, a group of NYU students confronted the Chleea Clinton, accusing her of "jumping on right-wing bandwagon".

On Twitter, Ms Dweik responded to criticisms, saying she did not corner Chelsea Clinton and the confrontation "wasn't planned".
