Controversial Australian lawmaker 'egged' after comments on New Zealand mass shooting

The footage shared widely on social media showed Senator Fraser Anning being approached from behind at a political event on Saturday before having an egg cracked on the back of his head

A number of Anning's supporters - including convicted criminal Neil Erikson - then grabbed the teen by the throat and threw him to the ground, and held him in a choke hold until police arrived.

An Aussie lawmaker who blamed immigration for the New Zealand mosque massacres attacked a teenager on live television after the young man smashed an egg in his head.

One man can be seen grabbing the teen around the throat and placing him in a choke-hold. They said they are investigating the incident "in its entirety" including the actions of Anning and others at the scene.

"The real cause of the bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place", he said in a statement.

Fraser Anning during a news conference in Melbourne and raises his phone with his left hand.

Earlier in the day, Anning had repeated his claims that Muslim immigration was to blame for Friday's attack, the Herald reported. He was wearing a T-shirt with the same year (in Roman numerals) of a famous 1917 incident when Australian Prime Minister Billy Hughes was egged in Queensland while he campaigned for conscription to help the British war effort.

The 17-year-old teenage boy at the centre of Senator Fraser Anning's egging has commented after he was set upon by members of Senator Anning's team.

Morrison called his comments "disgusting" and that they have "no place in Australia". The page says funds will go toward legal fees and "more eggs".

Anning was strongly criticised by Australian politicians on Friday after making controversial comments about the New Zealand attacks on Twitter.

New Zealand High Commissioner Annette King said her country rejected absolutely Senator Anning's sentiment.

Scott Morrison, the Australian prime minister, said he expects Parliament to pass a resulting censuring Mr. Anning for the statement once the next legislative session convenes.

A change.org petition calling for Mr Anning's expulsion from parliament has amassed about 250,000 signatures.

It will say the Senate calls on "all Australians to stand against hate and to publicly, and always, condemn actions and comments created to incite fear and distrust".

Senator Anning came to the Senate in late 2017 as a replacement for One Nation's Malcolm Roberts after he was found to have been a dual citizen and therefore ineligible for election.

Many have since hailed the teenager a hero, branding him "egg boy".
