Google Foldable Smartphone Design Tipped by Patent

The patent, first spotted by Patently Mobile, suggests that the company might be working on a folding phone with a single screen.

It looks like Google is gearing up to jump on the foldable phone bandwagon by introducing a brand new handset equipped with a screen that folds. The Pixel 3 was produced by Chinese company Foxconn, for example. While we've seen this design in a few other patents it's something fewer manufacturers seem to be considering, as most patents we've seen show phones folding in two.

According to the patent images, the Google foldable device is likely to have an inward folding display.

Google added support for foldable displays into Android in November. That's not to so these patents couldn't be used for future phones, or that they don't help in the development of similar products, only that they don't guarantee such a device will ever be released. So, that certainly leaves some wiggle room as to what Google might be planning to do with this technology. But all these phones are rather large, and are essentially created to replace tablets.

Is Google building a foldable Pixel phone?

We just have to wait for more informations about this very interesting device, as Xiaomi has accustomed us over the years, it could revolutionize the newborn foldable smartphone market.

The search engine giant is expected to follow in the footsteps of Samsung and Huawei that introduced their foldable phones during the recently concluded MWC (Mobile World Congress) that took place in Barcelona.

Keep in mind Google has some experiences working with foldable glass. It is not for sure how exactly the device will work. As per the latest patent filed by Apple at U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) reveal, that the company is seeking details to a solution associated with the wear and tear of a foldable smartphone.
