Jaguar Land Rover recalls 44,000 cars

Jaguar Land Rover recalls 44000 cars over carbon dioxide levels

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has become the latest automaker to be called out over excessive emissions, with the British firm under fire from authorities for select models built between 2014 and 2018.

"Jaguar Land Rover is conducting a voluntary recall following the identification of Carbon dioxide performance variability with certain 2016-2019 MY Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles fitted with 2.0L diesel or petrol engines", said James Scrimshaw, PR manager for JLR Australia.

For Jaguar it's again the 2.0 litre petrol in the Jaguar XE, XF, F-Pace, E-Pace and F-Type being recalled, and the 2.0 litre diesel in the XE and XF too. Additionally, some of the affected vehicles will require physical repairs while others will just need software updates.

The issue was discovered by the UK Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA), which reported its findings to Jaguar Land Rover. It is now working with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), which is following up on VCA's work, to "ensure that the recall is administered and managed in line with the recall procedures to ensure the vehicles are rectified as soon as possible", the agency said.

The European recall stated that affected cars "may emit excessive levels of Carbon dioxide and may not conform with the certified condition".

In its statement, Jaguar Land Rover didn't state what the recall work would entail.

Land Rover says it is contacting all owners and remedial work will be carried out free of charge.

Natalie Hitchins, head of home products and services at consumer group Which?, said the recall once again raised questions about how far buyers could trust manufacturer's claimed performance figures.

It's only a week since Jaguar Land Rover proved how low their diesel auto emissions now are by using independent testing by AIR Index to demonstrate just how clean their engines now are.
